Combine the sauce ingredients in a small bowl, adding the water a tablespoon at a time, until you have the desired consistency.
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a frying pan. Cook the burgers on each side for 2-3 minutes until both sides are golden.
To assemble: warm the buns, spread them with 2 tbsp of the garlic sauce, add the cooked tempeh burgers and toppings. You can also serve these bunless with a salad or green veggies on the side.
